Some machines only let you choose either metric or imperial, which makes sense if you don’t need both systems.
If you are using a metric-only CNC machine, then this will not be an issue for you. However, if you have a machine that can work in both systems, then it will be necessary for you to change from one system to another.
The procedure is quite simple. In the CNC application you are using, there should be a button or menu item that lets you change the units of measurement. This will change the units on all other applications as well as the machine itself.

Inch/mm choice is in the settings of your software, not the machine This one is easy to solve as long as you understand that it’s a software problem, not a hardware issue.
Most often, this problem has nothing to do with the actual CNC machine, but instead is a configuration issue in your CAM or CAD program. All programs have a setting for either inches or millimeters. You can usually find it under “options” or “settings”. Remember, your CAM software could be setup for either inches or mm and your CAD software could be setup for either inches or mm and they don’t have to agree with each other!
You can also change these settings when you import a file from another program like SolidWorks.
You just have to change the setting in the software.
Go to the menu bar, click on “Edit” go down to “Units” and then select “MMGS.” That’s it.
This is a standard in the industry. I have used many programs over the years (most are compatible with this format) and they all use MMGS as a standard.
If you are using Mach3, you have to change the setting in the software.
In the “Config” menu, select “Units”.
Check “Metric Units”, uncheck “inch units”.
Press the “OK” button.
